Acrylonitrile

What is Acrylonitrile?

Acrylonitrile (HS Code 2920-10, CAS No. 107-13-1, Einecs No. 203-466-5, UN No. 1093) is an organic compound represented by the chemical formula CH₂=CH–CN. Due to the presence of both an unsaturated bond and a nitrile group within its molecule, it is known as a highly reactive monomer. Industrially, acrylonitrile is widely utilized as an indispensable raw material in the production of high-performance plastics such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and ABS resin, as well as in the manufacture of synthetic fibers and rubber. Its properties offer great potential for product development across a diverse range of fields including automotive, aerospace, and electronics. In particular, PAN has attracted attention as a precursor for carbon fibers, making the role of materials derived from acrylonitrile extremely important in modern technological development where the demand for lightweight yet high-strength materials is increasing.
