Acrylonitrile

What is Acrylonitrile?

Acrylonitrile (HS Code 2920-10, CAS 107-13-1, Einecs 203-466-5, UN 1093) is an organic compound represented by the chemical formula CH₂=CH–CN and is known as a highly reactive monomer. Industrially, Acrylonitrile-derived materials support a wide range of applications in automotive, aerospace, and electronics. In particular, PAN is attracting strong attention as a precursor for carbon fibers, making these materials extremely important in modern technological development where the demand for lightweight yet high-strength materials is increasing.

Our Eco-Friendly Acrylonitrile

Resonac’s acrylonitrile is a sustainable product made from chemically recycled plastic waste and certified under ISCC PLUS.

Chemically Recycled Material

Resonac’s acrylonitrile is made from low-carbon ammonia derived from chemically recycled plastic waste. The plastic waste used in this process is discarded by households and companies and collected by local government. The quality of our acrylonitrile is identical to that of conventional products.

CO2 Emission Reduction and Material Circulation

Plastic recycling plant in Japan

Resonac’s low-carbon ammonia reduces CO2 emissions by more than 80% compared to fuel-derived ammonia throughout its chemical recycling process. Its recycling plant has been operating steadily for nearly 20 years and can recycle approximately 60,000 tons of plastic waste per year. Through eco-friendly acrylonitrile, we contribute to both carbon neutral and circular economy.

ISCC certification

Resonac’s acrylonitrile is certified under ISCC PLUS.
Acrylonitrile made from chemically recycled plastic waste can be sold as an ISCC PLUS-certified product based on mass balance approach. We also hold ISCC PLUS certification for the following products. Please feel free to contact us for further information!
